On January 21st, I lead a Make-it, Take-it project at the Arts in Bartlett’s Ladies Night Out event.
I decided to do a little Valentine’s Day Charm project that visitors could take home and hang in their windows or tie to a package for that someone special. I was inspired by a project I saw about 10 years ago in a Family Fun magazine and my Cricut machine.
Using my Doodlecharms Cartridge and some adhesive backed card stock I found at the craft store, I cut out the heart charms shapes in both forward and flipped image positions as it is an asymmetric design. It was fun choosing the colors to work with. I was able to get 2 sets from each sheet of card stock.
On a sheet of waxed paper you shave tiny pieces of crayon using a paring knife to get about this amount of coverage. 2 – 3 colors is enough or you might end up with a muddy mix. Fold over the waxed paper onto the shavings, sandwich it between 2 pieces of parchment paper and heat with a warm iron. Just touch the iron to the paper lightly. If you want swirled patterns, gently move the iron around a bit.
Here are some samples of color mixes I came up with.
Next I used a cookie cutter that just happened to be the correct size and traced around it. Cutting it out with a 1/4″ selvage allowed it to fit inside the charm cutout perfectly.
I then sandwiched the waxed paper between the 2 pieces of the charm card stock, lining them up to match the cutout insert and the outside edges.
A piece of pretty ribbon was added for a hanger.
This could be a great children’s project with proper supervision. I did a similar project with my own kids when they were young.
Here are some of our visitors that night and their creations. Aren’t they beautiful?
I hope these charms bring great big smiles to the receivers just like they did to these creative ladies here.
Hope you enjoyed today’s post!

thanks for showing us these. Linda. I am sending my two valentines to my 2 grandchildren in Denver and we are going to “skype” a little valentine’s day party where I can see them open their valentines.
I’m so glad you enjoyed this Cecillia. I bet your Grandchildren will love them knowing you made them.
